When you make the choice to walk this path with seriousness, you take on several new and challenging responsibilities beyond that of your life before you embarked on this quest. When we started the Knights of Awakening, it was an absolute must that it is the cornerstone of everything we sought to accomplish out in the world.

Someone who takes on the mantle of Knight is held to a higher standard of behavior and conduct, a higher standard of right action, a strong sense of self-discipline; a higher standard of just about everything really. After all, not only will you be judged on just about everything you do but all others who are associated with you will be judged along with you. We are held to a higher standard first from within and reveal itself in everything we do…..every day. When you take on this task, to do better and to be better, it makes life more challenging yet far more rewarding in the end.

You need to be accountable for every choice, every action, and every outcome. It can and will be a struggle for the entirety of your life going forward on this path, but without the burden of responsibility and the drive to be better every single day, being a Knight has no real impact on the world and is nothing more than an empty title that people use to feel special.

This starts with self-discipline. Let me share with you the definition of discipline that I learned in my days with the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at my high school. Within it, are the basics for discipline as well as self-accountability.

“Discipline is the state of an individual’s mind, developed through training that leads to self and unit pride, and which results in a willing response to authority or personal initiative where a lack of authority exists”.

Discipline is not something that we are born with. It is a state of being that is ingrained through training, hard work, and perseverance. It is required when you are mastering a skill or a trade. Without it, you will fail at most everything you set out to accomplish in your life. Once obtained, discipline is that driving force that helps to see you through a tough time or a tough situation you will face. It is that state of mind that helps you fall back to your training seamlessly in times of stress and danger. Once earned, discipline gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment. Discipline shines through in everything you do out in the world, it will be reflected in the actions you take, and it will be one of the first things others will notice about you. Discipline is one of the main ingredients that will transform you into a force to be reckoned with.

Awaken the Knight Within!
